No not a Manowar album, (but its a great one) :mrgreen: rather a place to discuss ideas for the Gods, myths and similar things we can include within War & Sorcery, and our games of War & Conquest

Obviously, theres the Greek Gods and Troy.
The Viking sagas/Myths
Arthurian
Celtic

There must be plenty more and while I am pretty good knowledge wise on Greek Gods and Troy, not sure about the others, (although I have a book on the Viking myths somewhere)

Anyway, a chance to chatter further

This is a tricky one unless you create a 'world' for War and Sorcery. From Sumeria through Babylon, Assyria, India, Polynesia etc etc all had gods. To some degree the gods are the same - Mars/Ares for example. In other cultures the gods become different gods when they are in certain moods! Shiva becomes Kali when in a killing mood for example.

Then you have the Celtic/Arthurian myths which ascribe spirits to almost everything. Not gods as such but forces to be appeased.

I see standalone 'lists' to add Personality to our Ancient games, Troy is the obvious one.

No need for a 'world' for War & Sorcery as plenty exist already, (although I have created one so games can have purpose by way of a campaign)

How to involve gods in battles without balance problems?
Or do the armies have benefits/penalties if raised under the reign/sign of one of them?

How about characters and the chance of career upgrades to built them with various levels of skill, magic, strategic oppurtunities, power, etc.. Mix of roleplay and wargame ;)

I´d like charbuilding as in WHFB (but less powerfull of course) or something like this.

I think the question here is if the "Gods" should simply appear as stand alone special rules for each list, or if some overall system for them should be created.

Actually i imagine a "God of War" Section that can player elect to use or use not, similar to the Legends of War Section. This should be used if you battle Fantasy armies like Dwarfs, can be used if you want in between historical armies and is not used in "normal" WAC.

I'd like to see Gods providing "boosts" or "interventions" to armies, rather than being some super character.
Giving the army or units Saga style specials that get burnt up like SIPs.

Major gods giving army wide powers:
Gods of War giving some kind of combat bonuses - Mars/ Ares/ Tyr/ Nuadd
Gods of wisdom giving some kind of strategy bonus - Minerva/ Athena/ Odin?
Gods of Healing giving some kind of save bonuses - Appolo/ Eir?

Lesser gods/ heroes giving specific unit bonuses
Hercules, perseus and the like.

Perhaps some sacrifices needed to envoke the gods? SIPs rolls or something.

Sound reasonable.

Do anyone remember the computer game Age of Mythologie? There you had on 4 "levels" the choice between each two different gods that gave you a special one use only spell and different special units.

Maybe something like this can be introdued. Example for Greeks, every Deity you choose cost points:

Major: Zeus or Hera. Zeus gives you a Lightning Bolt spell, causing a single wound to any model on the field and you can field Hercules as a Character. Hera gives you someting else...

If you use a Major God you can have the choice between two second ones (that are somehow related to the first) and so on.
