Mal

a question for you from the warandconquest yahoo forum

-->
Hi

Thanks thanks for the clarification on pike.

I am looking at the Longbow men in the Burgundian list. I note they do not have stakes nor can they adopt mixed formations with pikes (did they actually do this or did they just test it?) which makes them vulnerable to cav. I can see they are equipped with a two handed weapon. Do you see this as being a Halberd or similar (AP1) or large axes, swords and similar (AP2). If the first to you envisage players modelling the unit as a mix of bow and halberds but calling all the models bowmen, thus representing a mixed formation.

Thanks in advance

Peter

My answer on the two handed weapon part

Hi Peter

As I didn’t write the list, or know the period, I cannot comment for sure.

Two handed weapons are classified as AP2 and the points used equate to that, and not a halberd.

They are meant to represent two handed swords or hand and a half 'bastard' swords. As far as the mixed formations, I have not come across this as common place in my research. Yes, the bowmen are vulnerable to heavy cav, but I feel they pack a punch against light and medium cav.
