Following feedback - main change, removed skilled warrior for ALL legionnaires and added slingers

From V4 - Added in some cavalry for the period of Trajan/Aurelian

As ever comments and observations welcome on any potential errors

There are some interesting comments from the earlier version of this list - so I left those in in case anyone wants to knock together such a list - although note the Early Germans now get some Roman deserters

Further to some observations I intend to give this list, and the Caesarian list, an update later this week, so any extra feedback or comments most welcome

Post Re: Early Imperial Rome v2
Hi Rob,

i am currently building up an EIR army for the Batavian Revolt. I plan to play the more "smaller" engagements. So maybe even a Centurion would be the "Armygeneral" and a Signifer as Army Standart. This brought up the idea to either keep the name within the list more Generic (Army General, Army Standart). Its just a thought - but in 28mm I personaly enjoy more the 1:1 .. 1:20 maximum approach for minatures:realsoldiers. So a complete Legion with Aquilifer and Legate is fielded not in every 2000 points game. Thats only a small idea.

More important would be either a second Ally list "Batavian Auxilia" (Infantry and Cavalry), or even include them in the normal roman list. Some kind of elite Auxilia ... reading the historical sources, they must have been kind of the best of the best of the best the roman army could come up with. I actually find the classification in the Germanic List in the "Classic Era Book" a bit too weak with MO 7 for the Cavalry, not drilled ... ... The troops should be realy good, but very expensive too. All sources I know speak of a very high fighting value of the regular batavian units. Just thinking of them swimming through a river in full armour - sounds kind of tough :D.

The other Batavian units, as the other germanic troops on the other hand are not of that high quality ...

Well, just some thoughts. Might be a bit too much for a generic Roman list. But maybe it would be nice to come up with an armylist (or 2, one roman, one batavian) in the future :) - very interesting event... and i especially like those Facemask helmets :D

Thanks for that,

I am always happy for people to send me army lists, I will then points check them and upload them. The case you describe sounds sensible for one of our campaign books/pdfs
