Post Persian Army list (II/7)
who are the guys listed as Hoplite (as opposed to the "Greek Mercenary Hoplites") supposed to represent?

Are they just Persians with the name "Hoplite" kind of being used generically?

Some Greek Cities in what is now Turkey (and for that matter elsewhere) fought on the side of the Persians as I recall at some point so I would expect that was what was intended by the author. You can also use the extended separate Persian list which has more options

Just checking persian army list as we would like to give try to W&C

It is strange that
- all cavalry has shields as option but no any option for heavy armour - not sure how shiled and heavy armour are handled in rules. Maybe the it is postigle to use one instead of the other?
- no Kardake as regular infantry from the time of darious

Hmm, it is early persian list where sparabara infantry was present.

Unfortunately this list can not be used vs Macedonians wher Kardake was present and cavalry with heavy armour and barding.

Hopefully later persian list will be updated.

hi, is there somewhere an updated "Late Achaemenid Persian" army list? The list in the army book could be used as basis, but has some small errors in it.

I've not got round to that one - if you use the link above as a basis for a list (as theres more in it than the book list), please let me know what troops types should be in and out, and I will put one together along side some material I have here once I have finished painting some Greeks for this weekends battles

Cool, I am also busy painting more Greeks.

I am new to the period, but would imagine that the immortals would be replaced by other infantry and that the Persians were by that time more dependant on Greek mercenaries. I think they also used less archers in formed units, and morale might be lower as they ran from Alexander's army....Elephants might have to be added.

OK I think the elephants were never used against Alexander and I don't know if they saw service elsewhere in the Persian empire

Starting a Persian army is on my 'to do list' I have some cavalry painted - its just all the infantry and more cavalry!

My Persians will fight the Greeks and Spartans though, rather than Alxander

Didn't Darius have a dozen or so at the battle of Gaugamela?

I did some initial work on a later Achaemenid Persian list ages ago. I will see if I saved it to home.

I’ll try and look out at the weekend.
