Post Warband unit sizes
What would be the aprx normal sizes for warband infantry unit in a 2000pt game??
I currently have 1 unit of 31 and 2 units of 28, i was wondered if i should swim them down and have an extra unit??

Post Re: Warband unit sizes
Getting the balance right on unit size is always problematic - smaller units = more units giving flanking opportunities - larger units = more staying power and the probability of bringing 'Weight of Numbers' into play

I have generally found a compromise is in order - a couple of decent sized formations - 27 (9 figs x 3 ranks) or greater (36) plus a couple of 16/18 man sized units - large units in the centre, small units on the flanks, although depending on the deployment options, don't be afraid to load one flank with all the big units and put the smaller units on the other - if you catch your opponent out with this, and then get two consecutive moves through winning a strategic advantage roll, you can really get your opponent into a pickle or if you are me, end up losing regardless

I hope to be meeting up with a couple of guys from the Wells area in a couple of weeks time on a Sunday at Bristol Independent gaming for a War & Conquest game, so once the date and time is firmed up I will let you know

Post Re: Warband unit sizes
Thanks for the feedback Rob, yes its a head scratcher thats for sure. I am up against 2000pts of vikings. We normally play 1500pts but as im off on hols for a couple of weeks we would have a biger bash.
I feel an extra unit of infantry would be very useful, but that means cutting back in other areas, ah what the hell!!! what could possibly go wrong :o :o

Let me know when your in our area on a sunday, i would be interested if i can get my pass stamped :P :P

One quick question and i fear a stupid one but im gonna ask any way ;) if an infantry/cavalry unit has a frontage of say 8 models and a rear rank of 6 models does the rear rank have to be a full rank to get the rank bonus or is 6 enough, i.e minium unit size and when that rank drops below 6 for infantry or 4 for cav then the rank bonus is lost?? sorry thats a bit rambly :?

There will be a game at Bristol Independent Gaming Sunday 22 January in the afternoon when Paul and possibly a friend of his are coming up from Wells to meet me for a game of War & Conquest

Welcome to join us.

Anyone want to come along, shout out, plenty of space as we are probably in the 'warehouse' area - so bring a coat

I have recently reorganised my warbands to four ranks of eight, I had them in 27 and 30 and found that after a few missile shots into them or the first round of combat I normally lost the 'weight of numbers' due to losing that back rank, this way I can maintain it, hopefully, I have only had a few battles since but it seems to work.

St Jo where are you based?

If in the UK there are events in Newark (May) and nr Bristol (September)

I would agree with George - 4 ranks of 8 is pretty handy for warbands but you can chance your arm with 4 x 7 as well.
